This week, we explored how the story of MacBeth connects to our mythological/archetypal critical theory and began thinking about what we are going to focus on with our project. I am excited for this project because I really enjoyed watching MacBeth and I definitely think that group projects help me to learn more than I would on my own. Some of the details of MacBeth are hard to understand and pick up from watching the play, and it has already proven helpful to have the ability to see views, opinions, and explanations from other members in my group. I feel that it will be great to be able to collaborate and combine a variety of different thoughts contributed by all members of the group that can help shape the ultimate idea and outcome of the project, as well as help us to gain deeper understanding.
As a group, we have begun discussing what the focus of our project will be and how we will connect our critical theory to MacBeth. We have decided to analyze the witches in the play and the impact of the archetype of the witches on the play as a whole. The witches are the ones who set the mood for the play, conveying a creepy tone and allowing the viewer to infer that bad things are soon to happen. We are also going to look into how each character is affected by the witch archetype and how it connects to the outcome of the play. I am looking forward to continuing our project when we get back from break and digging deeper to analyze the creepy witches of MacBeth.
