Recieving new poems and analyzing them in class this week made me realize just how glad I am that Mr. Schoenborn is back. I am excited because I feel that the discussions we have as a class when he is here really help me to gain a deeper understanding of what we are sharing our thoughts about. I also think that he will help us to maintain a stronger focus during class time and help us to get the most out of each activity and assignment that we complete. For me, it was hard not having Mr. Schoenborn here for so long, but I believe that we, as students, will get out of this class what we put into it. How hard we work and how much thought and effort we put into what we do in AP Lit is something that isn't dictated by having a teacher in the room. I think that this experience has helped us much more than it has hindered us, by helping us to recognize what it means to be self-motivated and independent and practice these qualities for when we will need to utilize them next year in college.
I think that one of the most helpful things that we have worked on this week is looking deeper into Poem of the Week essays. I like how we have focused in on them this week by reading more poems, example essays, and practicing grading other students' essays, as well as writing our own as we normally do. I believe that analyzing the rubric and scoring essays written by my peers will help me to improve my own essays a lot. By scoring classmates' essays, I have already been able to see similarities to patterns in my own writing and how they can be improved upon. I look forward to exploring more examples and discovering more ways in which I can become a better Poem of the Week essay writer. I am also looking forward to continuing our critical theory projects and watching MacBeth next week!
