The poems that we analyzed and wrote about this week were "London" (published in 1794) by William Blake and "London, 1802" (published in 1807) by William Wordsworth. I thought that these poems were a little harder to analyze and understand than poems that we have worked on in the past. I think this may be because I am not very familiar with the history of London and what times were like at the time these poem were written, but I also think it's cool that by reading and analyzing these poems, I was able to learn a lot about London's history in a new and special way.
In addition to working on poetry and our Poem of the Week essays, we continued working on and finishing up our This I Believe videos this week. This project makes me nervous because I feel that these narratives are such a special and powerful type of work, that it's very important that mine turns out perfectly and conveys my belief very effectively and fully. I think it's hard to sum up all of the details of an important belief that you hold, and it can be even more difficult to share it with someone and be sure that they will fully understand what you are trying to say. I'm just a little worried because with the mix of the music and my voice, it sounds like I'm trying to be really inspirational, but really I just sound dumb. Maybe it's because I'm very serious about my belief in my video but normally I'm a pretty silly person around my classmates. Oh well, I just want this to be really meaningful without sounding corny. I am going to work hard this weekend to improve my piece and put some finishing touches on it to make it just how I've pictured it turning out.
I am looking forward to Wednesday and Thursday next week when we are able to enjoy watching and listening to our classmates beliefs. I feel that it will help us to all understand each other better and grow closer to one another. I am not especially excited to share my piece with everyone, but I think I will survive. It will be worth it to get to hear my classmate's beliefs and watch the videos that everyone has put so much time and hard work into!
